OOAED’s Oral History Page This page is an effort to collect the history of our rather specialized and unique profession. To our knowledge, there is no place where you can learn about the history of Ocean, Offshore, and Arctic Engineering. This site hopes to correct that; its purpose* is two fold. First, it will be a historical archive where personal recollections, anecdotes and histories can be captured for posterity. It will be a site where you can learn about your profession in the words of the engineers who lived it. It will also be a site where you can add your own personal experiences to the history. Second, it is hoped that this site will serve as a training ground for new engineers beyond the historical. Operating in severe environments is a unique and challenging vocation. This site can be a place where lessons learned can be passed on to new generations of engineers in an entertaining manner. The site will be initially divided into two areas: The Universities and Projects. In The Universities, you can learn about the beginnings of the curriculum of Ocean Engineering, who was involved and how it grew. In Projects, you can read stories, some of them humorous, about engineering in the sea. As more stories are added, we may add more sections to accommodate them.
